A beautiful and highly sought after tropical plant, native to the Bolivian rainforests. Calathea Orbifolia will brighten any room with its spectacular foliage of silvery green markings. It also has the added benefit of being a great air purifier so removes toxins.
 
Calthea's like medium to bright light out of direct sun and enjoy humid conditions so is ideal in a bathroom or kitchen. Alternatively, put a tray of moistened pebbles under the pot to raise humidity.
 
Water when the the top inch of soil is dry during spring and summer. Top 2 inches autumn/winter.
Although these plants are a little more demanding when it comes to care, they will show you when they are unhappy. For example, yellow leaves are a sign of over-watering, whilst brown leaf tips means it needs higher humidity.
