A beautiful tropical plant, native to the Brazilian rainforests. Calathea Pinstripe has striking dark green leaves with pink stripes. As a variety of prayer plant the leaves open and close at dawn and dusk. It also has the added benefit of being a great air purifier so removes toxins.
Calthea's like medium to bright light out of direct sun and enjoy humid conditions so is ideal in a bathroom or kitchen. Alternatively, put a tray of moistened pebbles under the pot to raise humidity.
Water when the the top inch of soil is dry during spring and summer. Top 2 inches autumn/winter.
Although these plants are a little more demanding when it comes to care, they will show you when they are unhappy. For example, yellow leaves are a sign of over-watering, whilst brown leaf tips can mean it needs higher humidity.
